PMI-LA Trustees are comprised of the chapter's past presidents who are actively volunteering with the chapter. With extensive knowledge about PMI and the chapter, they provide historical reference, guidance, and support to the current standing Board. Serving on key committees such as By-Laws Committee, Nomination Committee, Volunteer Appreciation & Awards Committee, Scholarship Committees, Financial Oversight Committee, and Special Projects Committees. We thank them for their constant support, knowledge and PMI experience. They are our guiding light!

Kay Rathfelder, MBA, PMP - 2015

Kay has been a member of PMI and Project Management Professional (PMP) since 2004. Before moving to southern California in 2010 she was a member of the Sacramento Valley Chapter as a Marketing volunteer. She has served the LA Chapter in a variety of volunteer positions starting with the Communications team; then VP of Admin; VP of Communications; VP of Strategy/ President-elect; President; Past President – and she received the Charlie Lopinsky Volunteer of the Year Award in 2016.

Kay is a Senior Project Manager with a large utility company in So Cal - leading teams on a variety of projects for the transportation department. Prior to her current role, she was with HP for 16 years and has additional experience in supply chain, logistics, materials and planning; and has successfully delivered projects across the Americas, and implemented new product introductions worldwide.

 

Deby Covey, MBA, PMP, CSM - 2013

Deby Covey

Deby has been an active member and volunteer at the Project Management Institute (PMI) since 2007, starting as VP of Finance in 2009, VP of Strategy in 2012, and President of PMI-LA chapter in 2013. She served as Region 7 Finance Advisor in 2014, and Shadow Mentor in 2015. For 2016-2018 she is serving as Region 7 Mentor, representing 18 chapters in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Hawaii!

Professionally, Deby works for Opentext/GXS (28+ years) and is currently the Technical Support Manager, Digital Certificate Management & Compliance. She has a staff of 23 direct and indirect reports. Her team is responsible for the all projects related to Certificates & Keys renewals of internal and client facing certificates as well as all Compliance and Security release projects for the Business Networks Division of OpenText.

 

Pan Kao, PhD, PMP, DTM - 2012

Pan Kao

Pan has been an active member and volunteer at the Project Management Institute (PMI) since 2001, including the President of PMI-LA chapter in 2011. He served as a member of the Leadership Institute Advisory Group (LIAG) at the PMI from 2008 to 2010. He graduated from the prestige PMI Leadership Institute Master Class (LIMC) in 2007. Pan is also a member of Toastmaster International. He has accomplished the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award. Additionally, he is an active volunteer and has served in various leadership positions at different levels of the Toastmaster International organization. Barbara Cooke, MBA, PMP - 2008

Barbara Cooke

Barbara has been a member of PMI and PMI-LA since 2001, and a Trustee of the chapter since 2010. She was a member of the Board of Directors from 2006 through 2009, serving initially the Vice President of Marketing for the chapter, followed by Vice President of Strategy/President-Elect, and then President of the chapter in 2008. In addition to her role as an officer of the chapter, she has represented the chapter at multiple PMI national Leadership Institute Conferences and PMI regional Leadership Summits, and served on various chapter committees including the Strategic Planning, Nominations and Bylaws Committees. Barbara has a BA in Psychology and an MBA from the University of Colorado, as well as over 30 years of experience working in Fortune 500 companies, most recently as an independent management consultant. Barbara is also active with her university alumni association, having served 5 years on its national Board of Directors, and currently serving as the president of its Los Angeles alumni chapter.

 

Jeanne Takano, PMP - 2007

Jeanne Takano

Jeanne’s professional background includes 15 years in Project Management, primarily in the IT arena. Jeanne earned her PMP in 2004 and a Master’s Certificate in Project Management in 2003. During her career, Jeanne has held various positions from Project Manager, Project Lead, IT Manager, and currently Business Information Systems Officer for the City of Long Beach. In 2001 she joined PMI-LA and volunteered for Logo Wear Coordinator. Since that time she has had the opportunity to be Finance Assistant, Vice President / President Elect, and President of the chapter. While holding these positions with the chapter Jeanne has been been able to help in different areas and get an understanding of the processes that are in place for the chapter. Additionally, helping with the re-write of the Chapter By-Laws as well as serving on the Financial Audit team has provided a deeper understanding of the Chapter processes.

 

Bernie Morse, PMP - 2006

Bernie Morse

Bernie Morse served as PMI-LA’s President in 2006 and is currently a Trustee. He joined PMI-LA in 2003 and became active as a volunteer in 2005. Since 2006 he has served on the Nomination Committee, Recognition Committee, and led PMI-LA’s planning for the 2007 Annual Region 7 Meeting which was held in Woodland Hills. He earned a Project Management Certification from University of California, Irvine in 2002 and passed the PMP exam in 2003. Bernie has over 43 years of experience with Northrop Grumman and Litton Industries, retiring in January 2013 as an Assistant Program Manager for an internally-developed software product used within multiple Northrop Grumman sectors. Prior to his current role he held positions in information technology and project management. Bernie is also active in the City of Hope’s Board of Governors Chapter, currently serving on the Executive Committee.

 

Maria McHolland, PMP - 2001-2002

Maria McHolland

Maria has been a member of PMI since 1996. She has served the PMI-LA chapter as Finance Director, Vice-President, and President (two-year term). As a past president, Maria served PMI as the Region 7 Component Mentor for 2.5 years, working with 15 chapters in five states. Maria is currently a chapter Trustee and has remained active by accepting assignments such as participating on the Nominating Committee, New Member Orientation Sessions, and mentoring other chapter leaders. Maria is also very involved in Toastmasters International. She has held numerous positions at the club level and enjoys working with other volunteers to help them realize their potential. Her participation in both PMI and TM has helped Maria in developing and improving presentation and leadership skills for managing volunteers and achieving group goals and objectives.

 

Ida Harding, PMP - 1999-2000

Ida Harding

Ida Harding is a retired Project Manager who has worked as a Project Manager on a variety of types of projects for IBM and Federal Contracting Services since 1990. She has also worked in computer marketing (IBM) and in higher education administration and instruction at several universities. She has earned her MBA, MA English Linguistics, BS Education, and AbD in Higher Education. She earned her PMP (Project Management Professional) certification from PMI (Project Management Institute) in 1995 and she has been an active member and volunteer in PMI (on the global as well as the chapter, SIG, and community of practice levels) since 1994. She was President of the PMI-LA Chapter for two terms (1999-200 and 2000-2001) and won the PMI Chapter President of the Year for both years. She is currently a Trustee for the chapter and also serves as Council Leader for the PMI Leadership in Project Management Community of Practice. Ida also volunteers for a water charity (Wells Bring Hope) which she helped to found in 2008 and she also facilitates a women’s renewal group.
