Behind the Scenes: PMI-LA's Quarterly Strategic Planning Session
What does a PMI-LA strategy day actually look like?
A little bit of planning. A little bit of problem-solving. A lot of collaboration.
This weekend, PMI-LA's volunteer leaders came together for our quarterly strategic planning session to reflect on current initiatives, celebrate progress, and discuss where we want to focus our efforts over the next six months.
While members often experience PMI-LA through events, programs, networking opportunities, and educational content, these planning sessions help ensure we're continuing to create meaningful experiences for our project management community.
Reviewing Progress and Looking Ahead

The day began with updates from teams across the chapter as we reviewed ongoing initiatives and discussed what's working well.
These conversations gave volunteers an opportunity to share successes, identify challenges, and align on priorities as we continue supporting project professionals throughout Los Angeles.
Giving Back Through Social Impact

One of the highlights of the day was taking a break from strategy discussions to participate in a hands-on social impact activity.
Volunteers worked together to assemble kits that will support members of our broader community, reminding us that project management isn't just about plans and deliverables—it's also about creating positive impact through service.
Turning Ideas Into Action

Back in the room, it was time to put our project management skills to work.
Teams brainstormed new ideas and opportunities for the chapter before evaluating them using an impact-versus-feasibility approach. Through discussion, collaboration, and a healthy number of sticky notes, we identified initiatives that have the potential to create the greatest value for our members and volunteers.
It's one thing to generate ideas. It's another to prioritize the ideas that can realistically make a difference.
Powered by Volunteers

Days like this are a good reminder that PMI-LA is powered by volunteers who care deeply about professional growth, community, and creating opportunities for others.
Whether organizing events, developing programs, supporting members, or building future initiatives, every volunteer contributes to making the chapter stronger.
A special thank you to Phoebe Jane Johnson, MBA and the Operations team for coordinating and facilitating a productive day of planning and collaboration.
We're excited about what's ahead and look forward to sharing more with the PMI-LA community in the months to come.
