Celebrating the Heart of PMI-LA: Volunteer Appreciation 2025
On March 11, we came together at Tin Roof Bistro to celebrate something that truly powers PMI-LA — our volunteers.
It was one of those evenings that felt easy. People reconnecting, meeting for the first time, sharing stories, and just enjoying being part of the same community. And at the center of it all was a simple truth: this chapter runs because of people who show up for each other.
As someone said during the evening,
“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”
That really stuck.
A Community That Shows Up
There were a lot of moments throughout the night that reminded us what PMI-LA is really about.
Some shared how they stepped into something new. Others reflected on how long they’ve been part of the chapter (with a few laughs along the way). And again and again, the theme came back to this idea: you don’t have to do something big to make a difference.
Sometimes it’s just raising your hand.
Sometimes it’s stepping in when something needs to get done.
Sometimes it’s simply showing up.
And that’s what makes this community work.
Recognizing the People Behind It All
We also took time to recognize a few individuals and teams who made a big impact this past year:
- Leo Rogers
- Phoebe Johnson
- John Joyce
- Yang Ong (Charlie Lopinsky Volunteer of the Year)
- Chapter of the Year Planning Committee
Each of these reflects the same thing in different ways — people who stepped up, took ownership, and helped move the chapter forward.
More Than Just an Event
What stood out most wasn’t just the awards — it was the energy in the room.
There were stories about navigating challenges, like coming together during the wildfires to support others. There were reflections on leadership, mentorship, and growth. And there was a shared sense of pride in what this community has built together.
One line summed it up perfectly:
“This is our chapter. This is our home.”
Looking Ahead
If there’s one thing this night reinforced, it’s that PMI-LA is shaped by the people in it.
Whether you’ve been involved for years or you’re just getting started, there’s always space to contribute, try something new, and connect with others.
Thank You
To every volunteer — thank you.
For your time, your energy, and your willingness to show up. That’s what makes all of this possible.
