Lee Mandley Volunteer of the Month - March 2021
Wilson Yu
A major benefit we offer to our members is submitting the PDUs they earn attending our Programs events and activities to PMI for them. Uploading those PDUs is critical to maintaining our members certifications and is something they have not only grown to expect us to do but are depending on us to get done in both a timely and accurate manner. Wilson is the volunteer who has been submitting the PDUs for various chapter events for several years now; doing this “behind the scenes” administrative task two days a week throughout the month, depending on how many events are held. For someone with such an important job to do for the chapter, he is relatively unknown to the governance team, despite how dedicated and reliable he has been over the years in handling this task.
While this alone is enough that Wilson should be finally recognized for his contributions over the years, the reason for his nomination at this time is what he did to support the chapter in March and get us through a situation that could have escalated into a crisis had he not stepped up and helped. He, without hesitation or question when asked to do so, immediately took on the submission of PDUs to PMI from additional events that he was no longer responsible for. Even though it meant considerably more work for him than he had initially accepted to do this year and included many communications back and forth with Program Directors who were new to the submission process and who needed a lot of hand holding to get the information correctly to him. He ensured that this was done accurately and in a timely manner, and that it was also transparent to our members that there were any issues which had he not jumped in and helped with, would have prevented their PDUs from being reported to PMI.
Great job and congratulations Wilson!
About the Lee Mandley Volunteer of the Month Award:
Founding Director of the PMI-LA Alhambra Community Meeting located at DeVry, Lee was a Construction PM and a long-time member of the chapter. He was the voice and liaison for the San Gabriel Valley members east of Pasadena. Lee was the first director to institute round table discussions on interesting Project Management Topics when a speaker had to cancel at the last moment. Since 2012, we have presented the ‘Volunteer of the Month’ award to a key volunteer who exhibits the outstanding trait of working “outside-the-box” to ensure that chapter operations are running smoothly in their area. This award was renamed later that year to honor Lee Mandley.
