Santa Monica In-Person Networking Event Recap

Event Recaps

Sometimes, the best kind of networking does not need a formal program, a presentation, or an icebreaker.

It simply needs the right people, a welcoming space, good food, and an excuse to start a conversation.

That was exactly the feeling at PMI-LA’s Q3 Networking Event on Thursday, September 24, at Santa Monica Brew Works. Surrounded by the relaxed outdoor setting and perfect late-summer weather, members and guests came together for an evening of conversation, connection, and community.

From First Conversations to New Connections

One of the best parts of the evening was seeing how naturally conversations began. People introduced themselves, shared their experiences, exchanged ideas, and moved comfortably from one conversation to another.

Many attendees were joining a PMI-LA event for the first time. Some came because a friend or colleague had mentioned the event, while others were simply interested in meeting new people and learning more about the Chapter. What made the evening special was how quickly everyone felt included.

There was no pressure to be a Project Manager, no need to arrive knowing anyone, and no expectation beyond being open to a conversation.

The group reflected the international energy that makes Los Angeles such a unique place, with attendees from Peru, Italy, and Asia. One guest had recently arrived in Los Angeles and was looking for opportunities to build a community and connect with others. Seeing PMI-LA become part of that experience was especially meaningful.

An Evening Made for Community

As the evening continued, guests enjoyed their drinks, shared waffle fries, crispy chicken bites, pizzas, sweet barbecue chicken, and other shareable bites while getting to know one another.

There was even a friendly four-legged guest who joined one of our members at the outdoor tables. Calm, sweet, and very comfortable around the group, the dog added an unexpected but memorable touch to the evening.

But beyond the food, drinks, and relaxed setting, the real highlight was the energy of the people in the room. Conversations ranged from professional experiences and career goals to life in Los Angeles, new opportunities, and the simple joy of meeting someone new.

A Community Worth Coming Back To

Events like this are a reminder that PMI-LA is more than a professional organization. It is a place where people can connect, exchange perspectives, find encouragement, and create relationships that may continue long after the event is over.

We are truly grateful to everyone who chose to spend their evening with us, whether you came as a longtime PMI-LA member, a first-time guest, or someone curious to discover our community. Thank you for thinking of PMI-LA, for giving our Chapter the opportunity to welcome you, and for being open to connecting with us.

Thank you to Danielle Benson, Deby Covey, and Anne Chu, and all the volunteers who helped bring the evening together, and to everyone who pulled up a seat and welcomed someone new.
