Q&A with Alex
1. What aspects of your involvement in this chapter bring you the most satisfaction?
Connecting with other like-minded project managers in person, and collaborating to help put various Membership Team and putting events on. Considering your experience, what guidance would you offer to newcomers joining the chapter? Come to PMI in-person events! Maybe slightly biased, but I would also advise coming to the volunteer engagement event if interested in becoming more involved with PMI as it’s a great place to learn about the different teams. Don’t be afraid to take risks. PMI is a risk-free space.
2. How do you personally define the significance of belonging to this professional community?
Very! It helps to feel connected to other people that have a similar goal. Although we belong to a myriad number of industries, PMI and its chapters strongly believe in the science of project management and it’s there you can discuss challenges and be experimental in your approach.
3. What personal benefits do you derive from your volunteer contributions to PMI-LA?
I’ve made some great connections and developed tools that I use in my project management job. Additionally, my involvement has allowed me to show employers that I’m serious about professional development allowing me to get my current job.
4. Do you have a personal quote or philosophy you would like to share?
The Nike quote: “Just Do it”. Don’t need to overthink action speaks louder than words or thoughts!
5. Do you have a PM Tip that you would like to share with chapter members?
Don’t be afraid to take risks especially if you are younger and ask for advice from other members. People like to feel important ;)
