Volunteer Spotlight on Anne Chu

At PMI-LA, our volunteers help shape the experiences that bring our community together. This month, we’re excited to spotlight Anne Chu, who has been volunteering with the chapter since May 2025 as the Director of In-Person Networking Events on the Membership Committee.
Anne plays a key role in helping members connect beyond the screen. Through events like Coffee & Conversations at Teofilo Coffee Company and other in-person gatherings, she focuses on creating spaces where members feel welcomed and comfortable engaging with one another.
“What brings me the most satisfaction is creating spaces where members can feel comfortable showing up as themselves. I love watching conversations spark between people who may have never met otherwise.”
Her goal with each event is simple but meaningful: to help members feel included and connected.
“Whether it’s Coffee and Conversations or other in-person gatherings, my goal is always the same: help people feel welcomed, included, and connected.”
Encouraging New Members to Get Involved
For members who are new to PMI-LA, Anne encourages them not to overthink their first step into the community.
“Start by simply showing up. Introduce yourself. Stay a little longer after an event. Say yes to getting involved.”
She believes PMI-LA stands out because members genuinely want to support one another.
“You do not have to have everything figured out. PMI-LA is full of people who genuinely want to connect and support one another.”
The more open members are to participating and meeting others, the more rewarding their experience within the chapter can become.
The Power of Community
To Anne, belonging to PMI-LA means being part of a professional community where growth is shared rather than pursued alone.
“Belonging to PMI-LA means having a place where growth is shared, not pursued alone.”
Members celebrate each other’s successes, support one another through challenges, and continue learning together. That shared momentum is part of what makes the PMI-LA community so impactful.
What Volunteering Means to Anne
Volunteering has also helped Anne grow personally and professionally. Seeing members exchange ideas, follow up after events, and build new collaborations is one of the most rewarding parts of her role.
“Volunteering reminds me how powerful connection can be. Seeing members exchange ideas, follow up after events, or build new collaborations is incredibly fulfilling.”
Through her work with PMI-LA, Anne continues to strengthen her leadership and communication skills while helping others build relationships that support their careers.
A Philosophy for Growth
Anne’s philosophy reflects the spirit of the PMI-LA community.
“Connection is where growth begins.”
She believes that when people feel seen and heard, their confidence grows—and from that confidence, new opportunities often follow.
Anne also shares an important reminder for project managers:
“Even in structured environments like project management, people come first.”
Clear plans and timelines matter, but trust, communication, and strong relationships are what help teams succeed.
