Volunteer Spotlight on Deby Covey

Some people make a community feel smaller in the best way.
Deby Covey has been volunteering with PMI-LA since 2008 and recently received her 20-year membership badge with PMI, but if you asked her what keeps her involved, she probably wouldn’t start with the number.
She’d probably talk about the people.

As Immediate Past President and a long-time volunteer, Deby has spent years helping members find answers, make connections, and feel like they belong here.
When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering, she said:
“I love working with all the volunteers and meeting new members and helping them get what they need from the chapter.”
For newer project professionals, her advice is simple:
“Just Ask! You have questions, we will find answers. Others have asked that very question before you and can benefit from you jumping in and asking that question.”
That feels pretty aligned with what PMI-LA is at its best — people helping people.
Deby also shared that one of the biggest things she’s gained through volunteering has been friendships, colleagues, and a much bigger professional network.
And her personal philosophy?
“When it stops being fun, it’s time for a change.”
Thank you, Deby, for everything you’ve done and continue to do for the chapter and its members.
