Volunteer Spotlight on Ivor Bok

Since joining PMI-LA in 2021, Ivor has contributed across several chapter teams, gaining new experiences, building relationships, and helping bring new initiatives to life.
Today, as Associate Vice President of Outreach Operations, he's helping build the chapter's Outreach function from the ground up. One of his proudest accomplishments has been helping establish PMI-LA's first officially approved PMI Chapter Student Club at the University of Southern California (USC), creating new opportunities for students to connect with the project management community.
For Ivor, the most rewarding part of volunteering is seeing ideas turn into something tangible.
"Whether it is developing university relationships, creating opportunities for volunteers, or helping establish our first officially approved PMI Chapter Student Club at USC, it is rewarding to see volunteer work create real value for members and the broader community."
Finding Opportunities Through Volunteering
Ivor encourages new members to get involved early and stay open to opportunities they might not have originally considered.
Through his own volunteer journey, he's had the chance to develop leadership skills, expand his professional network, collaborate with professionals from different industries, and explore new technologies, including AI.
"Some of my best experiences with PMI-LA came from saying yes to opportunities outside of what I originally expected to do."
He believes volunteering is an opportunity to discover new strengths while contributing to something bigger than yourself.
The Value of Community
For Ivor, PMI-LA is more than a professional association. It's a community where people share knowledge, support one another, and create opportunities to grow.
"Project management touches nearly every industry, so the chapter brings together people with very different experiences who can learn from each other, collaborate, and give back."
It's that combination of professional development, meaningful connections, and shared purpose that makes his involvement rewarding.
Ivor's Advice to Fellow Project Managers
Ivor's approach to volunteering can be summed up in three simple phrases:
"Bring your ideas. Find your lane. Take ownership."
And his project management tip reinforces that same mindset:
"Focus on outcomes, not just activity. A project manager's job is not simply to manage tasks and schedules; it is to help people move from an idea to something that delivers real value."
Thank You, Ivor!
Thank you, Ivor, for your dedication to PMI-LA, your leadership in Outreach, and your efforts to create opportunities for the next generation of project management professionals.
