Since joining PMI-LA as a volunteer in September 2025, Kenny Santanu has quickly grown his involvement with the chapter, recently stepping into the role of Associate Vice President of Technology.

Kenny works behind the scenes on many of the systems that help PMI-LA operate. From supporting the chapter website and Microsoft 365 environment to collaborating with teams across the organization, his focus is on making technology easier for members, volunteers, and visitors to use.

“What I like is making the website and our systems as frictionless as possible, not only for our volunteers and our members, but also for visitors who are just looking us up for the first time.”

Supporting New Chapter Initiatives

Kenny has also been involved in key technology initiatives such as Career Connect, helping PMI-LA use technology to create more resources and opportunities for the project management community.

While much of his work happens in the background, projects like Career Connect provide a more visible example of how the Technology team supports the member experience and works with other teams across the chapter.

Kenny has also been recognized as a PMI-LA Super Member, reflecting his broader involvement with the chapter beyond his Technology role.

Growing Through Volunteering

For Kenny, volunteering has also created opportunities to build experience outside of his professional background in healthcare administration.

“The biggest benefit has been the personal and professional growth. I came in from a healthcare administration background, and PMI-LA trusted me to oversee the chapter website and our Microsoft 365 environment.”

That responsibility includes managing accounts, licenses, groups, and access, training volunteers, and supporting technology needs for a chapter serving more than 2,800 members.

“A smaller environment simply does not offer that kind of scope. That experience carries straight into the career roles I am targeting.”

His progression from joining PMI-LA in 2025 to becoming a Super Member and taking on greater responsibility as AVP of Technology shows how volunteering can create room to learn while making an impact on the chapter.

Kenny sums up his approach with a simple philosophy:

“Any skill can be learned and mastered. Talent only changes how long it takes.”
