We're happy to resume our Volunteer Spotlight series for 2026. Our shining Volunteer Spotlight for the month of January is Kim Gilliom! Kim has been volunteering with PMI-Los Angeles for over half a year and is currently a volunteer for the Membership Committee.

What aspects of your involvement in this chapter bring you the most satisfaction?

What brings me the most satisfaction is being on the front line of member engagement and making everyone feel welcome. I enjoy meeting new people, helping them get connected, and seeing the excitement at each event. Contributing behind the scenes to improve the Membership pages also gives me pride in helping the chapter stay organized and accessible.

Considering your experience, what guidance would you offer to newcomers joining the chapter?

Jump in and get involved as soon as they can. I’ve found that volunteering is the quickest way to meet people and feel part of the community. My advice would be to start where you feel comfortable and let your curiosity guide you from there.

How do you personally define the significance of belonging to this professional community?

Belonging to PMI-LA means being part of a welcoming and supportive network of professionals who are always learning and growing. I value the sense of connection that comes from working alongside people who share similar goals. For me, this chapter represents both community and continuous improvement.

What personal benefits do you derive from your volunteer contributions to PMI-LA?

I find a lot of personal fulfillment in being part of something that brings people together. Volunteering has helped me strengthen my organizational skills and build meaningful connections within the chapter. I also enjoy knowing that my efforts help make each event run more smoothly and leave a positive impression on members.

Do you have a PM Tip that you would like to share with chapter members?

My PM Tip would be to stay organized and keep communication clear. I believe that a well-structured plan and regular check-ins prevent small issues from turning into big problems. Staying proactive helps every project move forward smoothly and keeps the team aligned.

“Small efforts create big impact.”
