When Nucha Moore became an active volunteer with our chapter this year, she was looking to reconnect with the project management community while studying for her PMP certification. What she did not expect was how quickly volunteering would become a place to grow professionally, build confidence, and develop entirely new skills.

Today, as a Social Media Content Strategist & Creator on our Marketing & Communications team, Nucha helps create content that makes project management approachable, engaging, and relevant to professionals from every industry.

Creativity Beyond the Workplace

Coming from a background in tax and financial operations, Nucha found herself stepping into creative work she had never explored before. Through volunteering, she strengthened her skills in storytelling, visual design, social media strategy, content planning, and AI prompting, all while helping share our chapter's story with the community.

She also credits the collaborative environment within our Marketing & Communications team with giving her the confidence to experiment, strengthen her storytelling skills, and apply those lessons in her professional career.

One project made that growth especially clear. After volunteering with us, Nucha created a leadership presentation supporting a program responsible for approximately 110,000 tax returns and $27.5 million in revenue. Looking back, she realized the storytelling techniques and presentation structure she had relied on had been shaped by the creative work she had done as a volunteer.

"I didn't realize how much I was developing until the work appeared somewhere entirely different."

Start Before You Feel Ready

Like many professionals, Nucha admits she almost talked herself out of attending her first PMI-LA event.

As an introvert, walking into a room full of experienced project managers felt intimidating. But attending Professional Development Day changed everything.

That one event led to volunteering, mentorship, meaningful professional relationships, and opportunities she never expected.

Her advice for anyone thinking about getting involved?

"Join sooner than you think you're ready to."

She also encourages newcomers not to compare themselves to others. One of the things she appreciates most about PMI-LA is the diversity of our community. Professionals from healthcare, marketing, construction, aerospace, finance, technology, and countless other industries come together with a shared interest in project management. That variety of backgrounds is what makes the conversations so valuable.

Helping Others Feel Like They Belong

That same sense of belonging now inspires the work Nucha creates for PMI-LA. Every graphic, social media post, and story is another opportunity to help someone discover a community where they can learn, contribute, and grow, regardless of their industry or career stage.

Nucha's Project Management Tip

"Invest heavily in clarity at the start of the project. When your team knows exactly what success looks like, why it matters, and what support is available, you spend far less time correcting course later. Remove the confusion, remove the friction, and the outcome takes care of itself."

Thank You, Nucha!

Thank you, Nucha, for the creativity, enthusiasm, and thoughtfulness you bring to our Marketing & Communications team. Your willingness to learn, collaborate, and help others feel welcome has made a meaningful impact on our chapter, and we are grateful to have you as part of our volunteer community.
