Topic:  Three Crucial Communications Skills to Help You Be Heard at Work

speaker simpson maria

We often talk about communication skills in general but just as often don’t pay attention to what makes them effective. This presentation looks at specifics of communications techniques and how to use them so you are heard at work, being sure that your ideas and contributions are not overlooked.

Both theory and application will be included, we’ll have time for discussion, and a copy of “Leading Unstoppable Teams! will be raffled.

Combining a little theory with a lot of practical application, the discussion will focus on:

• Listening: not just for content but for how people want to hear that content, for what their underlying emotional state may be, and how flexible they might be when working together;
• Responding: without antagonizing, with the kinds of information people need, with the right questions to demonstrate interest and respect; and with the precision that makes the point;
• Structuring the Message: so the main point is clear and persuasive, and so you control the content and even part of the response.

Understanding these skills will make them an effective part of your communications skill set.
