The Los Angeles Chapter was definitely on the global stage having just been the host Chapter of the 2018 PMI Leadership Institute Meeting (LIM) & Global Conference, October 4 – 8, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Jeanne Takano and Barb Cooke (current Trustees) led a committee which directly interfaced with PMI Headquarters to plan out the conference.
They took the lead on a wide range of activities, tasks and projects, as well as, registering almost 60 volunteers who came forward to help with the overall running of the conference.
The PMI LIM and Global Conference in Los Angeles was a gathering of thousands of like-minded professionals which provided 5 days of professional development, networking, information sharing and learnings from project practitioners in the region, and around the world.
As president of the chapter, Eduardo Henriquez, introduced the chapter to all LIM attendees and shared our recent highlights, best practices, as well as information about our city. Attendees were excited to be in LA and were thanking us for hosting the event.
As the host Chapter, we had a large presence with a display table and signage backdrop in the main Conference lobby area for LIM and then in the large Exhibits Hall during Global Conference. Chapter members manned the table where we had our chapter brochure and Los Angeles City Guide for attendees.
But the main attraction was the Spin and Win game where one could win LA Chapter logo items. This drew crowds every day to our table where we got to meet fellow attendees from around the world!
The LA Chapter and PMI partnered on a networking event called Young Emerging Professionals (Y.E.P.) which took place during the Conference. This exclusive, by invitation only, event was to give burgeoning Project Management professionals a chance to network with Chapter leaders, PMI Global Conference participants, and Project Managers from all around the world all in the glamourous surroundings of The Grammy Museum in Downtown LA.
Thanks to all the Los Angeles Chapter volunteers, BOD, and Trustee members whose contribution and dedication made this 2018 PMI LIM and Global Conference a huge success. Every chapter volunteer has a different reason and ways they wanted to get involved.
Here are quotes from a few of our volunteers sharing why they chose to give their time and efforts to the Chapter.
Peter Wu, CSPO®, PMP®, Vice President, Sr. Product Manager at City National Bank and also the September Lee Mandley Volunteer of the Month quote:
“I decided to volunteer at the PMI LA Chapter with the goal of expanding my professional network. Not only did I meet wonderful people from a variety of industries, but I was given the opportunity to utilize my skill set to improve the chapter’s data metrics thus further understanding our members’ needs. Making a difference and delivering events that met those needs was a very rewarding experience.”
Cami Hamilton, Marketing Communications and Project Management Professional and also the November Lee Mandley Volunteer of the Month quote
“Volunteering with PMI allows me to contribute my professional strengths (marketing, communications) and enjoy opportunities to network, collaborate and focus on problem-solving. It was great being a volunteer in the middle of everything at PMI LIM and Global - Helping others and making the chapter more visible!”
