Risk management is Valentine’s for the key in any project. Project managers need to understand and apply advanced tools and techniques for evaluating risk associated with various stages of the project life cycle.
In this presentation, Chris will cover analytical methods for evaluating the selection of projects, the development of project cost estimates, analysis of the financial costs and benefits of projects, and the financial control of the project.
About the Speaker
In a career spanning many years, Christopher Yang has held positions of increasing scope and responsibility. An experienced Technology Executive, Chris currently serves as Vice President of Engineering and Head of North America Loyalty, Leisure and Event Travel Technology at Corporate Travel Management (ASX:CTD), where he oversees software engineering, business analytics and project management groups to build technology solutions that support 400 M+ of travel business.
Chris previously served as Vice President – NA Loyalty and Leisure Technology, and Senior Director – US Loyalty Technology at Corporate Travel Management, Director – Project Management and Head of PMO at Onestop Internet, Senior Manager – E-Commerce Project Management at Ticketmaster, and as Technical Lead / Technical Program Manager – Software Engineering at DirecTV. During those periods, Chris oversaw a myriad of successful projects and technology initiatives.
In all of his positions, Chris has been involved in all aspects of technology management, and is proven in seeing all products and projects to their successful fruition. Chris has a strong understanding of software development, project and portfolio management, team building and change management and is expert at influencing change by analyzing business needs, working with cross-functional teams, and building effective relationships. He has a reputation for meeting organizational objectives and exceeding productivity and revenue goals while identifying and mitigating possible risks or issues that may side track success.
On the side, Chris teaches at the Department of Engineering and Technology at UCLA Extension. Chris helps develop and deliver curriculum for project management certificate program. Some of the courses include Fundamentals of Agile Methodologies (MGMT X 418.31C) and Risk Analysis and Project Management (MGMT X 443.2).
Chris has four degrees from the University of Southern California – MBA, Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Master of Science in Computer Science, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and Computer Science.
He also has a wealth of key certifications, including Project Management Professional (PMP), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), Program Management Professional (PgMP), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Product Manager (CPM), Professional Agile Leadership (PAL) and ITIL.

Registration can be canceled up until the Tuesday before the event with a $1 cancellation fee. You may also allow a friend or colleague to attend the meeting in your place. Because we owe the venue a guaranteed number by that Tuesday, any last minute cancellations are non-refundable. Should there be extenuating circumstances, please contact the board at BoD@pmi-la.org with the request and reason for cancellation.
This event may be canceled or postponed by the Chapter, though all efforts will be made to avoid doing so. If canceled or postponed, notification will be made to all registrants via email.
