Mutli-Chapter | Mission to Marketplace: Military-to-Civilian Career Transition

Leadership = Power Skills

Leaving the military and entering the civilian workforce is one of the most significant transitions many service members will experience. While veterans bring exceptional leadership, teamwork, risk management, and decision-making skills, translating those experiences into civilian career opportunities can be difficult.

In this session, Robert Shake will share his personal journey from active military service to becoming a Senior Program Manager and Value Stream Leader in the medical device industry. Drawing from real-world experiences, he will discuss the challenges, successes, and lessons learned while navigating career changes, professional certifications, networking, interviewing, and leadership development.

Attendees will learn how to effectively communicate military experience in civilian terms, identify transferable skills, build a professional network, and create a long-term career development strategy. The session will also explore how project management principles and certifications such as PMP can serve as powerful enablers for career advancement.
