SOCIAL IMPACT | Heal the Bay - Coastal Cleanup Day 2024

Leadership = Power Skills

Coastal Cleanup Day is an international day of action to protect our oceans, watersheds, and wildlife from trash and debris. PMI-Los Angeles Chapter (PMI-LA) Social Impact Team is excited to announce that we will be participating in the beach clean-up event hosted by City of Torrance.

Join your fellow PMI-LA members for three (3) hours at Miramar Park (Torrance Beach) to assist with the beach cleanup and be part of this international movement!

Please do not forget to select your T-shirt size when registering for this event (larger and smaller sizes can be guaranteed for those signing up prior to August 31).  When you arrive at the venue, there will be a main registration table by the City, but you will want to look for the PMI-LA check-in table since we are registered as a group. You will be given your T-shirt at check-in (or, make sure to bring your shirt if you have one already). Please plan to change into the new shirt so we can see recognize each other easily during the event as it has an amazing turnout!

You are welcome to invite your family and friends to join you.

Torrance Beach is a zero-waste site. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles.

Coastal Cleanup Day

For 33 years, Heal the Bay has coordinated 30-70 cleanup sites across Los Angeles County as part of California Coastal Cleanup Day. In 2022, we experienced a significant return of our participation numbers with over 4,500 volunteers coming out to 39 coastal, underwater, kayak, and inland sites. Heal the Bay is aiming to have around 55 sites and hoping to have over 7,000 volunteers!

Torrance Beach is the last beach that the South Bay Bike Path runs through. It is a clean, white sandy beach with a great view of the Palos Verdes cliffs. It starts at approximately Miramar Park to the North and ends at Palos Verdes. At the South end of the beach there is a 4 mile out and back trail called Malaga Cove Trail that takes you Flat Rock Point where there are some great tide pools to see. Parking for Torrance Beach can be found in the lot at 387 Paseo De La Playa where you can purchase a parking pass for $7.00 (or $2 or $3 if you come later in the day) to display on your dashboard. You can also find free street parking on Paseo De La Playa and metered parking on Esplanade and Catalina Avenue and then walk down to Miramar park and take the stairway down to the beach or back to the main parking lot to get to one of the ramps leading down to the beach. If you park in the Main Lot, you can pay with a credit card or cash. If you park on Esplanade, bring quarters for the meters as they do not take credit cards - the fee is $1 per hour and is enforced from 5 am - 9 pm.

Optional Networking Opportunity

After the event, you are welcome to join us at Rock & Brews (6300 S Pacific Coast Hwy, Torrance, CA 90277) for lunch.

NOTE: This is NOT a PMI-LA event and the chapter will NOT be covering costs for meals and beverages.
