PMI-LA strives to provide alternative resources for our members who want a different learning experience than what the chapter can offer. We reach out to universities to see what comparable certificates that they have to offer. We cannot validate the level of training received.
As a full-time student of an accredited institution, you are eligible to join PMI and PMI-LA as a student member. This is a significant discount over the professional fees. University of Southern California Bovard College (USC)
The Master of Science in Project Management (MSPM) program is designed to prepare professionals to advance their careers in the field of project management (PM). Our program emphasizes the strategic role that project management plays in the performance of global organizations, providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to be effective leaders.
Mount Saint Mary’s University (MSMU)
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program at MSMU, established in 2008, allows students the opportunity to earn an MBA with a Concentration in Project Management (PM). The PM component of the MBA Program consist of two main parts: 1. An introduction of PM embedded as a core class in the MBA Program and 2. an option for a Concentration in PM.
The core class consist of 12 hours of lecture introducing students to the importance of people skills, early planning, and specific tools available to assist in project planning including the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Precedence Diagrams, deterministic scheduling, Earned Value Analysis, and project status reporting. Students are also introduced to the predicative and adaptative methodology for managing projects. Students are made aware of the global demand for PM and the role of the Project Management Institute (PMI®) in establishing guidelines and standards, for practicing PM’s and professional PM certifications available through the PMI®.
The Concentration in PM provides 60 hours of focused lecture designed around the PMBOK® and the Agile Practice Guide. Although an option for the class, the Concentration provides the foundation to sit for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) or the Project Management Professional (PMP®) Exam. The Concentration lecture series includes a Case Study designed to apply the principles of the class lecture content to a practical project. Historical data for students sitting for the CAPM® or PMP® exam reflects a 99% passing rate. Professors are PMP® certified at a minimum, with extensive academic credentials and practical PM work experience.
California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH)
CSUDH, College of Extended and International Education is an official Global Registered Education Provider by the Project Management Institute. CSUDH offers a program for the Certificate of Completion in Project Management through the College of Extended and International Education.
California State University Los Angeles (CSULA)
Cal State LA for the past 3 years has been offering a Project Management certification program. Also in development is an additional set of courses focused on leadership, an important attribute for any project manager. o UCLA Extension offers different paths in Project Management to help you learn and apply the skills to manage projects efficiently, and lead teams effectively.
o Our curriculum is comprehensive and rigorous with case studies, best practices and lessons learned on each of the 49 processes as defined in the project management framework by PMI® to help engrain your knowledge and skills. The content in our courses is up-to-date with Agile emerging practices covered thoroughly for each of the project knowledge areas, and in accordance with the industry’s evolution in the field and PMI’s recent changes.
o All Courses are offered each quarter, both online and on-ground. Students in our courses come from a variety of industries promoting a wealth of networking and career opportunities. Courses are designed to train students from all backgrounds including healthcare, entertainment, insurance, banking, finance, retail, HR, government, IT, software, engineering, aerospace, manufacturing and more.
California State University Long Beach (CSULB)
The College of Continuing and Professional Education offers the following Project Management (PM) Accelerated Certificate programs.
These programs do not require formal admission to the university, are conducted by a PMP lead instructor with years of real-world experience, can be delivered at your facility or in our newly renovated classrooms, are fully compatible with A Guide to the PMBOK 5th edition, utilize course materials from a PMI approved REP, qualify for CEU/PDUs, are eligible for WIA funding through CA EDD, and include all required course materials at no additional cost.

University of Redlands
University of Redlands, School of Continuing Studies offers a Project Management Certificate program. The program is open enrollment, no admission or application required, and credits may be applied to a degree program.
