Career Development | Positioning Your Personal Brand & Storytelling (Résumé)
Session Description:
Your résumé is more than a career history – it’s a leadership narrative and a credibility artifact. In this interactive session, we’ll help PMI-LA members, mentors, and mentees clarify their personal brand, translate project experience into compelling impact stories, and build an ATS-friendly résumé that aligns with how hiring actually works today. Participants will learn practical techniques to position themselves for roles across industries by highlighting outcomes, leadership behaviors, and transferable skills (not just responsibilities). We’ll also connect the résumé to the broader career toolkit – LinkedIn consistency, networking conversations, and interview storytelling – so your message is cohesive from application to offer. Expect a blend of quick frameworks, examples, and hands-on exercises (including live “before/after” rewrites) that you can apply immediately.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Define a clear personal brand (3–5 attributes + value proposition) and translate it into résumé language.
- Write (or refine) a modern summary statement that communicates scope, domain, and differentiators – without sounding generic.
- Convert project work into accomplishment bullets using an outcomes-first formula (action + scope + result + metric/proof).
- Tailor a résumé to a specific role by mapping keywords/skills from a job posting to evidence in their experience (without keyword stuffing).
- Choose the best résumé format (chronological/combination) based on career story, not habit – especially for career pivots or nonlinear paths.
- Apply ATS-safe formatting and structure so content parses cleanly and is easy for recruiters to scan in <30 seconds.
- Align résumé claims with online presence (LinkedIn + portfolio/GitHub/PM artifacts where relevant) to reduce credibility gaps and increase interview conversion.
