How many times have you wondered, “I already explained that!” or “why are they so frustrated?”
Oftentimes, the people side of project management is more nuanced than the technical aspects. This
presentation will review communication approaches and techniques for managing high stress situations
with individuals.

Objectives
By the end of this presentation, you should be able to:

  • Articulate the importance of establishing expectations and documentation
  • Describe and practice strategies for de-escalating, grounding, and communicating in high stress situations

Speaker

Bridget Berg, MPH, FACHE is a Program Manager, Patient Experience at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, Keck Medicine of USC.

Bridget is inspired by serving her hospital community, spending time with her family, and running or meditating to stay connected to the present.
Bridget has over 18 years of managing projects of varying scope and size. Her initial work of internal consulting focused on regional planning and improvement efforts for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals. Following that, Bridget joined Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where a significant amount of her focus ensured hospital’s preparedness for children nationwide following disasters. She currently oversees the Patient Experience and Volunteer programs with USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, part of Keck Medicine of USC.
Bridget received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a minor in Health Care/ Social Issues at the University of California, San Diego and her Masters in Public Health, Health Care Policy and Management at the University of California, Los Angeles.
She is a native of the Bay Area and currently resides in Altadena with her family.
