Robert J. Shake is a seasoned Program and Project Management Leader and former Gunnery Sergeant turned Mustang Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps with over 23 years of experience. He specializes in translating military operations expertise into civilian Project Management Office (PMO) practices. With a robust track record in managing multimillion-dollar portfolios and driving operational excellence, Robert leverages his military leadership and logistics background to bridge the gap between military project management and civilian PMO frameworks. Currently serving as Assistant Operations Officer for Combat Logistics Regiment-17 aboard Camp Pendleton, California, Robert oversees a 21-member team within a logistics regiment, where he manages a $1.7 million annual budget and directs over 20 mission-critical projects. His role mirrors the structure and governance of a PMO, applying Lean Six Sigma methodologies and project management best practices to enhance operational efficiency. Robert’s efforts have led to a 12% reduction in medical supply wastage and improved global readiness of trauma stabilization units, while ensuring compliance with ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 standards. As a Certified PMO-CP (Project Management Office – Certified Practitioner), Project Management Professional (PMP), and Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), Robert is well-versed in aligning strategic initiatives with organizational goals in both military and civilian contexts. His upcoming presentation, "Translating Military Project Management to Civilian PMOs," will explore the practical applications of military project management within civilian PMOs and the evolving role of the PMO-CP certification. Robert holds an MBA with a focus in Supply Chain Management from Arizona State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Business for Veterans at the University of Southern California. Passionate about mentoring future leaders and driving innovation, Robert brings a unique perspective to the growing intersection of military expertise and civilian project management practices.
