The pace of change in our work is unlike anything seen before in human history and the pace is not going to slow. This pace of change, volatility and uncertainty aren’t going away. Fortunately, many of the leadership skills inherent in us today will remain valuable in serving the leadership needs of the future. During this session we’ll explore the new toolbox of skills needed for cohesive and productive workplaces tomorrow supporting mutually inclusive goals of exceptional results and workplace well-being.

  1. Emotional regulation and cognitive agility are super powers that live together and are two of the core building blocks of resilience.
  2. Attendees will explore their own resilience built throughout their career and life experience.
  3. Mattering, belonging and social support are more than “soft skills” and are predictors of future success and promotability.

Anthony Poponi
Speaker Professional Biography Anthony Poponi of Humore.us LLC has worked in many industries with most of his experience in the public and non-profit sectors before venturing out in 2016 to launch his workplace focused programs called Focus on the 40. In his time as a employee experienced “the good, the bad and the ugly” of workplace culture and started to explore what makes make for a team that is both high-performing and happy. His expertise is grounded in the science of positive psychology, the study of human happiness. Two of his pragmatic and guiding principles are that 1) yes, work is hard and 2) being happy at work is hard. Only through investment of effort do we make the hard parts not only easier but potentially so much more. Work can and should be challenging, purposeful, satisfying while contributing to our meaning, dignity and pride – and our bank accounts in the form of pay. How we help teams achieve this is complex – because people are complex and teams are complex. One thing is simple though: people-first cultures grounded in trust, fulfillment, happiness, and growth are what we are all seeking and also what leads to exceptionally performing groups. The word "exceptional" is key and getting everyone rowing in the same direction “as one” is the exception to the standard workplace culture. The collection of actions in any group establishes your culture. When done right your group’s culture creates alignment and a mutual desire to solve the biggest challenges at hand. This communal purpose leads to this deep sense of belonging, fulfillment and happiness! And happy people are resilient, overcome obstacles, and achieve more together than less happy people.
