What is a “member in good standing”?

We will consider any member that has paid his/her dues to PMI and PMI-LA Chapter as a “member in good standing” 

Can I submit an application on a class I will take later this year in September?

No, the course must be completed by the deadline of 31st July 2024. You may be able to apply for a scholarship next year if the Board approves funds 

Will I have to pay tax if I receive a scholarship?

Please consult your accountant or tax preparer for any tax implications

What if I didn’t pass the course, can I still receive a scholarship?

No, you need to complete the course and pass any required tests/ exams to receive a scholarship

What if someone else paid for me to take the class?

You have to pay for the class yourself to be eligible for a scholarship and reimbursement (and submit proof of payment) 

How long will I have to wait for a refund from the Chapter?

After we receive transcripts or certificate of completion and proof of payment, reimbursement payment from PMI-LA Finance will be processed as soon as possible, normally within 1 calendar month 

Can I take any type of project management class?

Yes, however, preference will be given to applicants who take classes offered by the PMI-LA Chapter or our partners 

Do scholarships cover Agile, Scrum, etc.?

Yes, any classes related to project management

Does it have to be a class at an accredited university?

No, but preference will be given to applicants who have taken PMI-LA classes

Can I use the $1,000 towards a degree program or masters?

Yes, if it is related to project management, but you will have to pay the additional costs

Can I take several classes up to the value of $1,000?

No, the scholarship is only for one class per person 

Can I take an online class?

Yes, if it is relevant to project management 

Can I apply if I am a PMI-LA Chapter member but live outside Los Angeles (or out of state)?

Yes, the scholarships are open to all LA Chapter members in good standing 

What if I started the class, but due to unforeseen circumstances, could not complete it?

We will only reimburse you if you completed the class, submit transcripts, and proof of payment 

What happens if I didn’t pass the class (or exam)?

We will only consider applications for classes that have been completed and passed (you will need to submit transcripts and proof of payment) 

Can I submit a claim just for the PMP exam?

No, the scholarship is for a project management course (which may include an exam as part of the course completion)

How do I receive reimbursement?

If you are selected for a scholarship, submit transcripts, or certificate of completion and proof of payment, as the Chapter needs to have documentation for an audit trail. Payment will be made as soon as possible, usually within 1 calendar month 

What if I don’t receive a scholarship this year; can I apply again next time?

Yes, if we run the scholarships next year, you can apply again.

Can I apply for a scholarship each year?

Yes, if you haven’t received a scholarship this year you can apply again next time 

Can I apply for a scholarship if I already received one from the Chapter in a previous year?

No, in order to be fair to everyone we only allow a member to receive a scholarship once.
